Pengaruh Self-Esteem Dan Self-Control Terhadap Personal Financial Behavior Serta Dampaknya Terhadap Compulsive Buying (Studi Pada Generasi Milenial Di Surabaya, Jawa Timur)

he purpose of this research was to determine the effect of self-esteem and self- control on personal financial behavior and compulsive buying in the millennial generation in Surabaya. Researcher used Social Cognitive Learning Theory to explain the relationship between self-esteem and self-control on personal financial behavior and also to explain compulsive buying. The type of this research was explanatory research using a quantitative approach and the research method used was survey method. The research was conducted in Surabaya which is the largest city in East Java which has many offices, universities, companies, and shopping centers. That reason makes many people from various generations with various backgrounds live and work or open businesses in Surabaya, including the millennial generation. The sample in this research was millennial generation who work or have a business in Surabaya. Researcher used 150 research samples obtained using a sampling technique in the form of accidental sampling. Researcher tested the hypothesis in this research using path analysis by WarpPLS. The results showed that self-esteem had a significant effect on self- control. Furthermore, self-esteem had a significant effect on personal financial behavior. Not significant results were obtained on the effect of self-esteem on compulsive buying, but self-esteem was significantly able to influence compulsive buying through self-control and personal financial behavior with coefficient value and probability value as -0.063 and 0.000. Self-control had a significant effect on personal financial behavior and compulsive buying. The results of the last test showed that personal financial behavior significantly affected compulsive buying.
